We listen to lots of podcasts by highly successful people and read personal development books often. When discussing key points of success, they almost always credit this same thing:
Generosity
This theme comes up over and over again in books and articles and instagram posts and podcasts, you name it.
Overall, people want to be generous. However, oftentimes where they currently are financially gets in the way. It seems scary to be giving money away when you don’t necessarily have tons of extra money lying around. We are big believers in the importance of giving NOW, not waiting until you have millions of dollars.
Roughly 6 days into May, we realized that we had given in some way… whether that be our time, our resources, or our money.
We decided it would be a fun challenge for ourselves to see if we could give every day for the month of May. Partially to challenge ourselves to be intentional, but also partially to inspire others. We chronicled the month on our Instagram in hopes of showing others that giving does not have to be giant grandiose gestures (while those do have their place!) to be meaningful.
Not once did we have a situation where we weren’t able to give because we couldn’t afford it.
“No one has ever become poor by giving.” ― Anne Frank
We didn’t have to go searching for ways to give. There is always someone in need, something to give.
“It is every man’s obligation to put back into the world at least the equivalent of what he takes out of it.” ― Albert Einstein
Giving doesn’t have to be monetary.
“The best thing to do with the best things in life is to give them away.” — Dorothy Day
A recap of what our month looked like:
Someone else started their own month of giving because they were inspired by ours. This was exactly what we hoped for. To see kindness spreading. To see others thinking about their money and time in terms of how they could give to those around them.
We truly believe in the importance of being open about giving – not because it’s bragging, but because by doing so, it allows others to know that it is ok to do as well.
Do you have a favorite moment of giving? We’d love to hear about it.
