3 Year Anniversary

It’s our anniversary!

3 years ago today we decided to become aggressive about paying off our loans.

When I look back and reflect on this journey, I truly am amazed at how far we’ve come.

This week, we paid off our 25th loan.

This week, we hit the $120,000 mark that we have paid off.

As of this week, we have only one loan left. And not that much left on it to boot.

We listed out all of the loans one by one and included their interest rate next to them.
We began working on the smallest loan with highest interest rate and worked our way up.  It was a hybrid between the debt snowball and debt avalanche I suppose. Every free dollar went to the current loan that we were working – it became a game to us really.

I began taking on side projects and freelancing to make as much extra money as possible to put on our debt.  It’s such a weird thing to think about how fun it became.  We LOVED being able to sit together and find out our new balance… but nothing compared to crossing off a loan and getting to start on the next one. And once we got started rolling, oh man did we get after it.  All of a sudden we would realize that we paid off $6,000 in a month… I’m still not even sure how.

And so that brings us to the present.

This is the year-to-date total paid since 3/15/2015.

One loan left.

I’m fortunate enough to qualify for a good chunk of change for loan forgiveness at the end of this school year.  We only have to pay down about $4,000 more dollars before the rest of it will be wiped out.

What an incredible feeling to see light at the end of the tunnel.

I sometimes wonder if I’ll feel a little void in my life when we have no more loans to pay off. It’s been such a huge point of our life for the past 3 years.

Hahaha my guess is no.

So here’s to the past 3 years. What a fun and interesting process – but I’ll be glad to see you go.
